Product Description
Publisher's Description
In this treatise on Matthew 27:35 ("A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things"), Heywood describes the inward dispositions of the heart, then shows how to cultivate them for godliness. He tells how to acquire Christian treasure; how to store it up in various thoughts, truths, graces, experiences, and comforts; and hot to bring "forth good things out of the believer's good treasure." An appendix to the first part of Heart Treasure offers an excellent essay on the use of meditation (pp.246-82). It includes twenty subjects to meditate on, plus instructions on how to do so. It also offers thirty practical items to meditate on during a typical day. The essay concludes with twenty motivations for meditating on profitable subjects. The second part of Heart Treasure, titled "The Sure Mercies of David," is based on Isaiah 55:3. After explaining the mercies of God's covenant with His people (pp.283-500), Heywood shows how those mercies are made sure, how they are confirmed and conveyed, and how God uses mercies to instruct, refute error, and encourage self-examination, conviction, and encouragement. This is the second of the five-volume set of Heywood's Works. Publication Date:1997
